Step 1: Wash the Pan

There’s a myth saying that you should never use soap to clean your cast iron cookware. That’s not entirely true. A well-seasoned cast iron pan will have enough of a coating that a little soap won’t damage the cookware. But, Still normal hot water is used to season the pan.

First, before you start seasoning you wash your pan with hot water to remove any food particles that are there in the pan. Thus you’ll be able to produce the smoothest coating. If you want to season a pan that is already rusted, take a steel scrubber and remove the rusting from the pan.

Step 2: Dry the Pan

Use a paper towel or soft cloth to dry the pan completely. Then heat the pan using the gas stove for a few minutes to evaporate the water molecule content present in the pan. Because, little water will interrupt the process of creating a smooth layer on the cooking surface of the pan.

Step 3: Apply Oil to the Pan

Step 4: Heat The Pan

Heat the pan under medium flame for 10-15 mins until the oil gets evaporated. Then rub the pan with a soft cloth or paper towel to remove any leftover oil. Then you will want to repeat the process three to four times to set down a good initial layer of your own.

Step 5: Take Care of The Pan

With the steps above you have formed a thick layer on your pan and it should work fine now. To maintain the same don’t ever leave water on your pan. Avoid soaking it for a longer time period. The layer you developed should protect the pan of course. But still to be on a safer side you should never leave water to damage your layer.
