What should you store water in – Copper or Plastic

Drinking-Water is an essential part of our everyday life, choosing whether the water we consume will remain PURE or UNHEALTHY remains in our choice of copper bottle. If you’re the kind of person that drinks water from a plastic bottle each day you could actually be doing more harm than good.

It is a lengthy read on the comparison of Plastic and Copper water bottles. For simplicity we have tabulated the advantages of Copper VS plastic below:

1. Plastic releases potentially harmful chemicals into your water.

When you expose plastic bottles to regular wear and tear, plastics release chemicals like BPA (Bisphenol A) or BPS (Bisphenol S) Even small amounts when ingested mimic estrogen, which can change the way your endocrine system functions. Prolonged exposure has been linked to chronic diseases, including diabetes, asthma, and cancer.

2. Plastic chemicals might make it harder for you to have a baby.

Researchers found that men and women undergoing in-vitro fertilization who had high levels of BPA in their blood, urine, and work environment were less likely to have a successful pregnancy.

3. Plastic chemicals could raise your risk of heart disease.

Humans exposed to the highest levels of BPA have an increased risk of heart disease, researchers think this could be due to BPA’s link to high blood pressure, a risk factor for heart disease.

4. Refilling plastic bottles could expose you to potentially harmful bacteria.

Plastic bottles break down from regular use. Even teeny cracks can harbor bacteria. While most bacteria are harmless, bottles can harbor norovirus-, cold-, and flu-causing bacteria. (Washing regularly with soap and hot water could help, but that could break down the plastic even more.)

According to a study, lab-tested water bottles used for a week had the highest number of bacteria reached over 900,000 colony forming units per square cm on average. Worryingly, that’s more bacteria than the average toilet seat. 60 percent of the germs found on the water glasses were able to make people sick.

5. Plastics are terrible for the environment.

We are well aware of the terrible effect of plastic on the environment. Recent environmental reports highlight the dire global situation associated with the world’s plastic use. Some numbers are very dire.

One, that globally humans buy a million plastic bottles per minute. Second, 91% of all plastic is not recycled. On top of that, it is estimated that over half a trillion plastic bottles will be sold in 2020.

6. Plastic bottles contain harmful BPA.

BisphenolA (BPA) – a controversial chemical, which is thought to interfere with sex hormones. BPA may mimic hormones and interfere with the endocrine system of glands, which release hormones around the body. “They can affect ovulation, and increase our risk of hormonally driven problems like PCOS, endometriosis, and breast cancer, among other things.
